USS BREWTON (FF-1086) is a highly capable and versatile Anti-Submarine platform. It is the 35th ship of the KNOX class Frigates. Especially designed for Anti-Submarine Warfare, USS BREWTON is also capable of Anti-Surface Warfare, Anti-Air Warfare, and Naval Gunfire Support.
USS BREWTON is equipped with the Navy's most sophisticated sonar systems, which provide for long range passive and active tracking of submarines. The ship is outfitted to operate the SH-2F Light Airborne Multi-Purpose Systems (LAMPS) helicopter in support of its anti-submarine mission.
BREWTON is manned by 18 officers and 260 enlisted. Facilities for the crew include berthing and messing facilities, laundry, ship's store, barber shop, and lounge.
BREWTON is powered by a single screw driven by a 35,000 shaft horsepower steam turbine. Two boilers provide superheated steam to 1,200 pounds per square inch pressure to drive the ship through the sea. Gyro controlled fin stabilizers on both sides of the underwater hull actively stabilize the ship.
