EXECUTIVE OFFICER
LCDR H.G. SLENTZ-WHALEN
Lietenant Commander Harold G. Slentz-Whalen, USN, was born in Elkhart,
Indiana. He attended the University of Kansas and received a Bachelor of
Science in Journalism in June of 1971, as was commissioned an ensign in the
United States Navy in May 1975. His first tour was as Navigator aboard the
USS ENGLAND (CG-22), out of San Diego, CA, during the final "Mod Squad" crew
assigned under command of CDR J.M. Poindexter. He reported aboard USS MERRILL
(DD-976) in 1977 where he served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer prior to
assignments on the east coast as Engineer aboard USS O'BANNON (DD-983), Operations
Officer aboard USS JOHN KING (DDG-3) and First Lieutenant aboard USS RALEIGH
(LPD-1). He took his first shore duty as speechwriter for Four-Stars, Admiral Lyons
and Admiral Jeremiah, CINCPACFLT. He returned to sea duty as Executive
Officer of USS BREWTON (FF-1086) in June 1988. Lieutenant Commander
Slentz-Whalen is married to the former Marcia Jane Slentz of Wichita, Kansas.
They reside near Pearl Harbor with their two daughters, Tonia and Tiffany, their son
Zachary, while the eldest daughter, Kimberly, is attending the University of
Virginia, Charlottesville.
