M Division: Foresight and the sustained dedicated efforts of M Div. personnel kept the ship's screw turning through 28,000 miles of West, North and South Pacific, Indian Ocean and Arabian Seas going Cold Iron only twice. The highest state of readiness was maintained and enhanced when the Fin Stabilizer Units were returned to operation. M Div. Machinists repair and maintain all of the machinery used to convert steam to mechanical energy. This includes turbines, generators, pumps, valves and their associated control system. One of the jobs of these men is the conversion of seawater to fresh water - an operation near and dear to every crewman's heart.
