WA Div. started off WESTPAC "86-87" at a fast pace. After two successful firings, one being ASROC and the other one a Torpedo, USS BREWTON and WA Div. sailed into the Northern Pacific to do what they do best; go "Tail Wet" and hunt submarines. The Northern Pacific operations were quite successful and WA conducted extensive training. Outside of the Philippines, WA used their Active Sonar in an exercise effectively locating, tracking and achieving a Fire Control solution on a submarine. From Singapore, BREWTON and WA charged into the Indian Ocean to show a present of force and was involved in several "Tail OPS" before anchoring off Masirah. At Masirah BREWTON was tasked to guard the rest of the Battle Group at anchor by patrolling the area. BREWTON and WA were again involved in several active and passive tracking exercises along its way to Geraldton, Australia. Upon completion of a terrific port visit in Australia, BREWTON resumed her duties in screening the Battle Group. We detach from the Battle Group and headed for Hawaii. WESTPAC "86-87" was finished with WA and BREWTON proving once again it has the finest ASW team in the Pacific.
