In 1999, John Sabatini (OS 1984-1989) began construction of a 1/96 scale model of the USS Brewton. The model was scratch built using mostly wood strips and carvings, and was finally completed in December of 2002. Photos taken during the construction can be seen in the news archive. The model is 4 feet 8 inches long, 21 inches high, and 6.5 inches wide.

The final home for the model hasn't been decided yet, but several museums have expressed an interest in it, and it may eventually go on display to the public. The construction was quite a daunting task, and it's a miracle that John was able to keep his sanity while completing this massive project!
